The Puyallup Police Department's Problem Oriented Policing Unit (POP Unit) was formed to provide a proactive approach to fighting crime within our city. As part of this approach, the department is looking at ways to prevent and abate crime. We believe that an effective way to achieve this goal is to work in partnership with our citizens to create a safe place to live, work and play.
The POP Unit is comprised of commissioned police officers, a full-time crime prevention coordinator and citizen volunteers. The unit seeks to establish partnerships within the community in an effort to identify and provide creative and innovative solutions to community concerns. These issues may include, but are not limited to, traffic emphasis, parking complaints, auto thefts and prowls and personal, child, auto and home safety issues.
The mission of the Problem Oriented Policing Unit is to proactively address chronic crime and quality of life issues within the community through creative and innovative solutions while addressing systemic issues through long-term solutions with involved stakeholders and community partners.
