Starting in November, the lahar warning sirens will wail only in an emergency. The system will continue to be tested at noon on the first Monday of each month, but the tests will sound very different. Pierce County has upgraded the sirens and system to allow for spoken word announcements in addition to the recognized emergency wail alert.
