[ARCHIVED] Public Reception for South Hill Artists at City Gallery in Puyallup

Ron Snowden Beach Birds Best of show

On Thursday, May 18th, the city of Puyallup will host a reception for South Hill Artists, a group whose work is currently featured in the “City Gallery” at City Hall.

South Hill Artists (SHA) is a non-profit organization established in 2008 to support local artists and promote arts appreciation. Its more than 80 members include painters, crafters, woodcarvers and photographers. SHA offers workshops, demonstrations and programs which educate both established and budding artists, helping them improve their craft.

The show at City Gallery displays the work of three dozen artists, most of which work in oil, acrylic, watercolor or mixed media. “Brave One,” by Sandie Hawkins, was done in coffee.

Ron Snowden’s “Beach Birds” was named Best of Show. Janyce Sukow’s “Serena Zylania” took first place; Wendy Stewart’s “Lowtide” took second place, and Sandie Hawkins’s “Brave One” took third place. Honorable mentions went to Candius Barney, Carol Fry, Doreen Koch-Allen and Karen Lehmann.

City Gallery is located at 333 S. Meridian, and open to the public Monday through Friday from 8 am to 5 pm. The gallery is curated by local arts organization Arts Downtown.
