In 2016, Puyallup became the second city in the state of Washington to receive an official "Bee City" designation from Bee City USA, a not-for-profit organization committed to developing and maintaining sustainable habitats for pollinators such as native bees and honeybees.

The purpose of becoming a Bee City is to support and encourage bee-friendly habitat creation and enhancement on both public and private land. As part of our Bee City status, we’ll celebrate National Pollinators Week on Saturday, June 24th at the Puyallup Farmers Market.

Come see us between 9:00 and 2:00. We’ll invite folks to put their hand in the honey jar and pull out a pollinator trivia question, with the chance to win the prize of a seed packet or a handcrafted bee pin that you can wear to show your support for these hard-working and indispensable creatures. We’ll also display pollinator-friendly plants you can add to your yard and share instructions on how to make your own mason bee house for your backyard.
