The Department of Justice has closed its investigation of the City of Puyallup regarding possible violations of the Religious Land Use and Institutionalized Persons Act.
The investigation was opened in 2016. The City cooperated fully with the DOJ and provided 6,968 documents during the course of the investigation.
The investigation was closed subsequent to the City’s repeal of Ordinance No. 3110. In closing the investigation, the Department of Justice (DOJ) did not issue any determinations or findings.
The purpose of Ordinance No. 3110 was to address impacts which businesses that provide social services to the homeless can have on the surrounding community. In its notice to the City that this investigation is now closed, the DOJ stated that no further action is warranted.
