[ARCHIVED] Purple Lights for Domestic Violence Awareness

Domestic Violence Awareness banner

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and the City of Puyallup is participating in the Purple Light Nights Campaign to help raise awareness. This campaign focuses on remembering those who have lost their lives to domestic violence, supporting those who have survived domestic violence, and offering hope to those still living with abuse.

During the month of October, you will notice purple lights in front of City Hall and in Pioneer Park. The lights are interspersed with banners which remind us that “Love Shouldn’t Hurt” and that there is no place for domestic violence in our community.

One in three women and one in four men in the United States have experienced some form of physical violence by an intimate partner in their lifetime. Each minute, twenty people in the United States are physically abused by an intimate partner. One in 15 children are exposed to intimate partner violence each year in our country--of those, 90% are eyewitnesses to the violence.

If you or someone you know is in an abusive relationship, help is a phone call away. 1-800-799- SAFE (7233)
