COVID-19 Update

COVID-19 info graphic

Although Pierce County has yet to report its first known case of COVID-19, the City of Puyallup is in close contact with our public health officials in addition to other community partners such as Central Pierce Fire & Rescue and the Puyallup School District. We are all working together to share information, monitor developments and assess the needs of our community as we mobilize to slow or stop the virus from spreading further.

What We’re Doing

The City is taking action to address the concerns of the Puyallup community. In addition to receiving updates and formulating potential mitigation measures on a daily basis, we are taking other steps as well, including:

  • At our public facilities, we are sanitizing hard surfaces such as doorknobs, handrails and counters as frequently as possible.
  • When treating any patient who is exhibiting respiratory symptoms, our first responders are utilizing anti-viral protective equipment.
  • We are determining which non-essential services (for example, citizen ride-alongs) can be suspended if it becomes necessary to reassign staff to maintain primary services.

What We All Can Do

The most important thing any of us can do is to stay home when sick. Not exposing others is the first line of defense against transmitting the virus.

Also, continue to take the precautions described in the graphic, and gently remind others to do the same. The SARS-CoV-2 virus is transmitted from person to person, but we don’t have to make it easy. Instead, let’s join together to make transmission as difficult as possible.

Questions?

The Washington State Department of Health has activated a call center to answer questions about COVID-19, including how it spreads and what to do if you have symptoms. Call 800-525-0127 and press #.
