The City of Puyallup is an organization that values all people without regard to race, ethnicity, gender or background. We do not tolerate harassment or mistreatment of any kind, period. The issues that must be addressed at this historic juncture in our country are both bigger than us, and not bigger than us. We recognize and accept our responsibility to do our part in responding to concerns that have taken center stage in our nation’s consciousness.
Every city department — from the library to public works to police to parks and recreation — will continue to hold themselves accountable in aligning their programs, policies and practices with both equity and justice, without exception. Our intention and goal is that every interaction a City employee has with a citizen is professional and unbiased, each and every time. We welcome and accept being held to the highest standards of ethics and professionalism.
We welcomed the opportunity last week to facilitate community members peacefully exercising their freedom of speech rights. We will always facilitate our community’s rights, including freedom of speech. Speaking up is critical. Being heard is just as critical.
This is and remains Our Puyallup—for all of us.
